Payton Hansen having huge season for Coyotes

REED CITY — Payton Hansen is a sophomore guard, who continues to make key contributions to the Reed City boys basketball attack this season.

It’s his first season on the varsity.

“The tempo of the game is higher,” he said. “If you’re not at practice, you’re not going to play. I still have some things to work on, but overall, I’ve done all right.”

Hansen is expected to do a lot of things when he’s on the court, including bringing the ball up and playing solid defense. He wants to work on his shooting.

“He’s a guard/forward who is strong with the ball and lock down on defense,” Reed City coach JJ Eads said. “He has the ability to really score the ball.”

The Coyotes bounced back from a recent 54-50 loss to Big Rapids when they won at Newaygo last Friday.

Reed City and Fremont are tied for first in the Central State Activities Association Gold Division at 5-1. Those two teams play at Fremont on Jan. 25.

“The team has been doing good,” Hansen said. “We’re coming to practice and working hard. We have a lot of depth and a lot of speed on our team.”
