EVART — The Evart Wildcats, like other boys basketball teams. are headed into the final weeks of the regular season in a few days, and standouts like junior Carter Pritchard are looking to be playing their best basketball.

Pritchard has been leading the Wildcats in various categories.“Defensively, he’s really come along,” Evart coach Kris Morgan said. “He’s getting more confidence in his players. He hasn’t played with these guys in a long time. He’s always played up. It’s taken awhile to get on the same page with everyone else.”

Prichard scored 17 points in a 60-59 win over McBain Northern Michigan Christian. Evart had lost to the team by 28 points earlier in the season but won this time on Donavin Reagan’s 3-point buzzer beater.

“When the fourth quarter came, we brought it on and the crowd was awesome,” Pritchard said after wins against NMC and Pine River.

“Our defense has picked up a lot,” Pritchard said. “We’re holding teams to under 50. We starting to attack more and not just shoot threes but attack the basket and get fouled.

“I try to be a leader and make sure we’re in the right defense and know what we’re doing on offense,” Pritchard said. “I need to drive a little more and get to the free-throw line.”

Evart is at the Beal City district on Monday.
