Reed City bounces back over Chippewa Hills

REED CITY — Reed City bounced back from a disappointing Friday loss to Big Rapids with a 64-21 trouncing of Chippewa Hills on Saturday.

The Coyotes offense struggled on Friday in a 43-27 loss to the Cardinals.

But the Reed City offense was in full gear against Chippewa Hills.

Anthony Pelton and Preston Johnson had 11 points apiece. Cody Kailing added nine points.

Trenton Tirban and Samuel Cole had five points apiece for Chippewa Hills.

“It was a lot better than Friday night,” Reed City coach JJ Eads said. “It was 16-10 after the first quarter and a good ballgame. The second quarter. We outscored them 20-4. It was a pretty good effort on our part.

“You have to put the ball in the hole and we were able to do that. We had 10 guys score tonight and four score last night. Sometimes it’s contagious. I thought our press was effective. You get some turnovers and layups and that always helps.”

Reed City (11-7, 8-4) is home with Newaygo on Friday.

Roscommon 39, Pine River 38

LEROY — Roscommon (10-7) did early damage to build a 10-0 lead before Pine River got on the board. The Bucks battled back to trail just 12-9 after the first quarter. Pine River appeared to take some control of the game in the second quarter, outscoring Roscommon 15-8 with point guard Lane Ruppert tallying 10 in the quarter by attacking the basket.

It was 33-27 after three, and that’s when things turned in Roscommon’s favor.

The visitors would outscore Pine River 12-5 in the final eight minutes, scoring the winning bucket with just 2.4 seconds to go.

Ruppert and Sasha Huffman lead Pine River with 12 points apiece, while Marcus Jurik tallied six. The Bucks fall to 8-10.
