REED CITY — Reed Coy softball is hoping for warm weather and plenty of success on the diamond this season.

The Coyotes, who have won two straight district titles, started practices on March 11 and are in their second week of preseason work. The season starts on April 4 at Morley Stanwood. Next week is spring break. Coach Roger Steig wrapped up tryouts last week.

He’s not expecting to get outdoors very soon because of the weather and field conditions.

“We’re planning on carrying about 15 on the varsity,” Steig said. “It’s a little larger than normal. We had a nice turnout for tryouts.”

A lot of players saw action during the summer and fall to get ready for the spring season.

The Coyotes again will be bidding for success in the Central State Activities Association Gold Division this season.

The first home game is on April 9 with Cadillac. The first CSAA Gold game is a home on April 12 with Fremont.
