Andrus posts strong wrestling season

Anakin Andrus

REED CITY — Winter sport seasons are coming to an end but it was an interesting one for Reed City sophomore wrestler Anakin Andrus.

“I thought my season was pretty good,” he said. “I had a lot of ups and downs. But mostly it was the journey that mattered. I was so close to going to regionals. I’m, happy I got to be a part of such a wonderful team.

I was happy this year but I thought I could do so much better,” Andrus said.

His record this season was 26-17. His record last year was 39-8.

“I loved wrestling against Chippewa Hills,” he said. “I improved on them from last year. I loved wrestling at districts. That’s one I’ll never forget.”

The Coyotes graduated state placer Ryan Simmons and Andrus expected to be among the top Coyotes for the 2019-20 season.

“I want to improve on a lot here and there, pretty much everything,” he said. “I think I’ll become a better wrestler.”

Mark White was at 145 pounds for the Coyotes in his junior season. He was injured his sophomore year. He was at .500 this season. He had a strong district and nearly advanced to regionals.

“I’d like to improve my overall record next year and get to regionals,” he said.

Kellen Haney was a .500 wrestler for the Coyotes.

“I feel better about this season than I did last season,” he said. “I need to be a little stronger on my feet.”
