Price set for strong senior track season

REED CITY — The track season has had some delays because of the weather but is set to get back on schedule this week with a Tuesday home CSAA Gold meet against Big Rapids.

Senior Jackson Price is more than ready to continue to have a strong senior season.

In the first CSAA meet earlier this month, Price was second in the 100 meters (11.86) and second in the long jump (19-1 ½) off a strong 2018 outdoor season. He won the 100-meter dash in the CSAA Gold meet and his PR was 11.41 second.

He was fourth in the regionals and had a PR of 23.71 seconds in the 200-meter dash. He also won the long jump in the CSAA and has had a PR of 20-10.

Price was on the 4×100 relay team, which was second in the regional in 45.39 seconds and won the CSAA Gold meet in 44.90.

The foursome was 11th at the state meet.

“We knew we were going to have a good 4by1 so I was planning on going to state,” Price said. “Long jump I started that halfway during the season and was pretty good at it, so I stuck with it. Regional meet, I had tough competition in long jump.”

He said the 100 in his best individual event.

“I was just want to improve,” he said. “My hardest competition will come from my brother Phillip. I can take first or second.”

Price wants to get into the low 11s this year.

In the long jump, “being fast helps and getting great height,” Price said, “and letting it carry you far.”

Reed City hopes to be a factor in the CSAA Gold standings.

“We’ll be good this year, boys and girls,” Price said. “We’ll be fast this year. Our boys team won the CMU indoor meet. I think as a team, we can win regionals and conference for sure.

“Having a new track is great, it’s good to have some home meets.”

Price has signed to play college football at Colgate and said track is a sport, which can help increase his speed and get him ready for the collegiate level.

“It helps moving your legs and keeping in shape,” Price said.
