Pine River defeats Montabella

LEROY — Pine River beat Montabella 9-3 in the first game of its home tournament on Friday. Luke Hill pitched four innings and did not allow an earned run. He fanned five batters and allowed two hits. Hunter Poe had two hits and two RBIs. Luke Hill had a hit and two RBIs. Jake Johnson had a hit.

Pine River beat Ogemaw Heights 2-1 in the title game. Winning pitcher was Poe who pitched five innings, allowing four hits and one walk while striking out three. Tanner Shimel had two hits while Lane Ruppert had a hit.

Pine River 1-1

LEROY — Pine River’s baseball  won the first game 14-3 at its home tournament over Montabella on Friday. Winning pitcher was Emma Whitley with three strikeouts and no earned runs.

Kayla Trowbridge had four hits and two RBIs with a double and triple. Daria Lindquist had three hits with a double and triple. Kim Hill had three hits. Pine River had 17 hits as team.

Pine River lost 15-0 to Ogemaw Heights in the title game.

Hill was the losing pitcher. She allowed five hits in one-third of an inning. Whitley pitched 4 1/3 innings.

Whitley had a triple for Pine River.

“We faced some good pitching in the second game,” Pine River coach Mike Nelson said. “But overall, It was a great day for us.”
