Reed City softball team splits with Newaygo

NEWAYGO — Reed City split with Newaygo on Friday, winning the first game, 7-4. Maddie Morgan was the winning pitcher of the first game.

She struck out six and walked one. Kamryn Myers and Morgan had two hits apiece.

Cassie Enos, Brandi Bentley and Alanya Stein had one hit apiece.

Reed City lost the second game 10-9.

Veronica Lofquist went the first four innings and gave up six runs, three earned and fanned three. Morgan came in relief and took the loss.

She allowed no earned runs.

Lily Andres had four hits while Kamryn Myers had three and Morgan and Lofquist had two apiece.

“We played pretty tough all night,” Reed City coach Roger Steig said. “Our pitchers pitched tough and we hit the ball well. We have to work to do in the outfield.

Our second game, we had four balls dropped in the outfield, which made the difference in the game.

Reed City lost two to Central Montcalm on Tuesday, May 7, 8-4 and 18-6.

Morgan started game one and was the pitcher of record. She gave up eight runs six earned on nine hits and struck out three and walked none going three innings.

Lofquist came in relief and went four innings allowing no runs on one hit striking out four and walking two.

Leading hitters in game 1 with two hits each were Myers, Morgan and Lofquist, who had a three-run home run in the first inning.

Lofquist went all seven innings on the mound in the second game.

She gave up 13 earned runs on 14 hits struck out three and walked five. Leading hitters in game 2 were Myers, Lily Andres, Lofquist, Enos and Kegan Parish, all with one hit.

Reed City is 6-10 and 3-4 in the conference prior to action this week
