Reed City baseball team sweeps Newaygo

REED CITY — Reed City’s baseball swept Newaygo on Friday in Central State Activities Association Gold Division action 10-6 and 9-7.

Reed City took the first game 10-6. Hunter Diehl got the win on the mound going five innings and scattering 11 hits. He allowed six runs but only five earned, and one walk. Clayton Wayne pitched the final two innings and allowed two hits and two walks while striking out two.

Payton Hansen had two hits, including a double with two RBIs and a run scored. Treyvor Conklin had two hits and three RBI. Jeffrey Samuels had one hit, one RBI, scored once, one walk, and two stolen bases.

In the second game, Brandon Wirth got the win, going four innings allowing five runs with only two earned with six strikeouts and no walks. Wayne pitched two more innings, allowing two unearned runs on two hits with two strikeouts.

Stephen Shewan got the save pitched the seventh inning allowing two walks and one strikeout. Hansen, Shewan, Conklin and Jason Thomas had two hits apiece. Hansen had two RBIs, Shewan had one RBI and Samuels had two RBIs on his double in the top of the sixth inning.

Reed City was 11-11-1 and 5-3 in the conference, prior to a game at Grant on Monday.
